Chinese tech giant Huawei is venturing into pig farming in a bid to salvage turnover as mobile phone sales stall. Due to ongoing sanctions preventing the company from entering 5G markets with its smartphones Huawei has announced it is developing pig farming technology. It could be quite a shrewd business move for them as China remains the top pig producer in the world with an estimated 38 million tonnes of pork produced in 2020. A NEW centre of excellence has been launched in the UK to focus on food security and sustainability. Thanks to generous funding of £750,000 from the John Innes Foundation, the Norwich Institute for Sustainable Development (NISD) has just been launched. A NEW version of the software app Skippy Scout has been launched and is ten times faster than its predecessor. Agriculture software specialist Drone Ag has just introduced the Skippy Scout version 2.5, which it says is a big step forward and will save a lot of time with field management. An Israeli startup company that produces dairy products without needing any cows has secured multi-million dollar funding to follow its goals. Remilk has been backed by investors to the tune of $11.3 million to set its wheels in motion. Those investors include local food makers Tnuva, Tempo and Germany’s dairy manufacturer Hochland. Walkers crisps are one of the largest buyers of British potatoes, the company sources almost 400,000 tonnes each year from eighty farms in the UK.
